Venting!

I went to the doctor yesterday! I had been putting it off as since having had cancer I hate to go.
Well I had a couple of problems. One being a result of the radiation treatment I had while having my cancer.

Well to make a long story short, I had a couple of problems and may have to go to a specialist.
But what I am venting about is my insurance. I have to pay over $600.00 a month. It takes most of my husband's retirement. We have to have insurance because having had cancer before. I have to keep this insurance because of the previous condition clauses in getting new insurance.
So I payed $100.00 for the visit. Then I go to the drug store, I picked Walmart because supposedly you can get cheaper drugs. Well my bill came to $184.00. I gave them my IBM insurance card and they said I was not covered. So I paid out Almost $300.00 to go to the doctor and get medicine. Maybe for some that is no big deal, but we are retired our income is limited.
We work part-tome jobs just to be able to live. So a $300.00 unexpected medical bill puts a hurting on us. At this time of the month until our next Social Security check comes in it's like choosing between medicine or food. Yes we can go into our small saving and will have to but it is just so sad. We pay so much money for so little coverage. Why can't we who live in America have good reasonable insurance. If i am having this much problems with insurance, what do the people who can't afford any insurance do. It should not be this way in America one of the riches countries in the world.

I would love to hear comments on this subject.

We do not carry any insurance on us, we do not ever go to the doctor and have been so lucky to be able to make this work for us. We do understand though the idea of an unexpected bill or in our case at this point, having our money but not able to get to it quicker than we need it. We do not have a savings to get into, what we have is what we have in our pockets, which at this time is under $10, with our site rent due tomorrow, no gas in our tank and our cupboards getting bare, we know how it can get a little bit overwhelming. But, we choose to have faith that it will work itself out but as far as medical insurance we are so against the system that we always choose not to even be a part of it!

Hi Lee,

I agree with all you said about the insurance, we should have sooooooooooo much better in this land of the free, it should not be that high of cost to have good insurance, and still not cover what you need!

Thanks for your comments on my blog, and I am going to try to writ sooner then I have been doing. The name of RV park is Superstition Buttes and we do like it here, but are also getting where we are ready to move on to our next place, we will go to Averey Ca. from May 18th till after Labor day and looking forward to that, it is right in the middle od all we want to see.

Can your state representative help you? Also, state insurance commissioner may have some resources to point you to. Worth a shot... Take care...
